My car engine fan has stopped working... advice please
Good Morning all,
I am really hoping some people on here would give me some suggestions of what I can try before I get ripped off at the garage:mad:
The car engine fan no longer works, I have very ittle knowledge when it comes to cars but in the MSE way would rather try and find out myself before I pour my money into the garage.
Any suggestions would be great appreciated, (Although I may need it in a simple format as my car knowledge is minimal!)
Thanks to all that read and reply.

How do you know it has stopped working? (Try to see what checks you have done)0

The car began to smoke after being stuck in traffic on the motor way. AA came out and ran several checks and decided that was why it was over heating. I let the car cool down topped up with water and was told should be fine as long as I don't get stuck in traffic!
I haven't really done any thing myself, as I dont know where to start.
The car is a ford Fiesta btw.
Thanks0 -
Could be a loose connection, a blown fuse or a faulty temperature sensor (or the fan motor itself). If you "don't know where to start" you are going to have to get it looked at ... overheating an engine can lead to much more serious problems. (blown head gaskets etc.) that will cost a lot more to repair than a fan.0

OK not really my thing as I am not sure what type of fan is in a Fiesta. My thoughts are it probably isn't a viscose coupling so will probably be an electrical temperature sensor and switch. Or it might come as a complete unit.

or used on ebay
If the later try and pick one up at the scrappy or a parts online place.
If you are not happy with that and want reassurance of a new part I would assume an hour's labour on top.0 -
He could also switch the engine off when stuck in traffic. Car fans don't come on that often anyway in the UK unless the engine is left running for a long time when stationary.0

If stuck in a similar situation, wind the windows down, turn the heater and fans up full and try to glide slowly through the traffic instead of stopping. If you simply turn it off, unless theres a hurricane blowing, unlikely to be enough breeze to create much heat transfer with the radiator and a good chance the heat sink will be your head gasket.0
