Not sure if i am on the right board or not, but we have just been told that the motorhome that we are hiring does not have an oven, it has a grill and a hob,
any ideas anyone for wild camping in scotland for meals to cook on the basics, we also will be taking a fold up bbq.
Thank you in advance.

Porridge, toast, cereal for breakfast? Pasta and sauce, stews, soups for lunch or dinner? Can you take a slow cooker? Google for one-pot-meals there will be loads.
Can't see much of a problem especially if you have a barbecue too. What do you normally cook? I rarely use my oven.0 -
There is a thread on the old style board about food for camping which will have loads of ideas.0

We caravan for a month every year, not using electric and have done so for the last 18 years. We have a hob, grill and a barbeque - until just now I never saw it as any kind of problem. Does it have a fridge? That's the essential thing you'll need if you're going to be far from civilisation.
I make bacon sandwiches as a breakfast treat about twice a week, main meal of the day is barbequed fish from the market every other day, alternating with meats from the supermarket; salad veg as often as I can get away with it, steamed veg the rest of the time; new potatoes as a staple, varied with cous-cous or pasta, and I always pack tins of tomatoes and ratatouille as a base for sauces, along with a jar of 'cooks helper' garlic because we don't use a whole bulb fast enough. The only things you NEED an oven for are baking cakes and pastries or doing a roast dinner. I'm on holiday - if I want any of those things, I'll buy them.
We eat out maybe once or twice the whole month, and on average buy one takeaway pizza if the fancy takes us. ENJOY the holiday - you'll be fine.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -

What were you planning on making? Roasts, cakes and pizzas?
There's not much can't cook (apart from the above) on a BBQ, grill and hob.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

You'll run out of gas very quickly if you use an oven anyway wildcamping. I hardly ever use one at home even as it's such a waste of electricity and my campervan only has 2 gas burners. You just don't need an oven!
Lots of ideas on here anyway, you can make bread on a bbq, cakes on a hob if you really have to - goodness though - I thought this was a holiday!!!
It's part of the fun of camping to do things differently than at home and find an alternative and more basic lifestyle, not take your home with you.
Have fun, am very envious, it will be great!0 -
Could always buy a mini camping oven - but they're so bloomin' tiny, I can't see the point for a family. Might be handy if just 2 of you... would just stick with what's there. Or dig out an old George Forman (which most of us have hidden in a drawer or cupboard lol!).

Pasta with tomato sauce (with protein in the sauce, eg turkey or tuna).
Spaghetti carbonara (with extra bacon, omnomnom)
Casserole (stewing steak, some bacon, carrots, onions, mushrooms, other veg as you like)
Risotto (rice, stock, veg, some protein such as chicken, turkey, halloumi works well with cherry tomatoes).
Bangers and mash.
Couscous salad (make sure you cook the couscous with some flavourings - a stock or something similar, add some green and red peppers and maybe some pan-fried fish).
And a barbeque to finish off.
Seven days, no repetition, all easy to cook!
...and now I'm hungry...0 -

The only thing you do miss after a week or two is crunchy food, if everything is cooked without an oven.
I have eventually done pizza in ours. Cooked in the frying pan until the base is done, then finished off under the grill.
And replaced oven chips with potato balls, again shallow fried.0
