Direct debit questions.

I changed bank accounts a about 3 weeks ago and changed over my DD myself. First one due to be paid out was on 20th to mortgage company. I did not go out.

I have checked the letter they sent me to confirm and the sort code and account number is correct.

I have rang the mortgage company and queried it and eh said they have the payment .

I have contacted the bank who said the DD has not been set up yet

I have checked today and has not come out today either, what do I do ?

Thanks

    what do I do
    Complain to the mortgage lender.

Ask them to collect the funds.

Insist that they backdate the payment to ensure you are not charged additional interest.

Insist on a letter confirming that they made an error and have not recorded any derogatory information with a CRA.

Ask for compensation. £50 might be a good starting point.

ok check your other account. It takes a couple of days from when the ddeb was due for the reciever to know if the funds have cleared.

I take it your new account was to automatically switch all ddebs.....

    very rarely works.
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

    thanks for replies,

Rang mortgage company when they opened and was told new bank returned DD unpaid , I paid over phone and called into branch and bank gave me list of DD's and mortgage not on it .

So back to mortgage company again and this time have been told DD was cancelled , i asked was she sure it was not the old one she was looking at but no she gave me the new bank account details. So still not sure what has happened but they have set up a new DD AGAIN from new bank account but not due until 20th August so will have to wait and see what happens.

Mortgage company said no late payment marker would go on credit file as they only do that if payment not made if DD not paid after it is represented.

    thanks again for the replies

All you can e er do is cancel a DD, you cannot do anything else as it is the Merchant who sets it up - you cannot do so - so the responsibility to activate a DD is always with the originator (the firm that wants your money).
