Good Evening all
My Wife is starting small business from home and she would benefit from a basic website.
Is there any free website builders/Programs and if so where do we start.
Many Thanks

There are a couple advertised on TV atm - Go Daddy springs to mind, but I'm not sure about charges.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Try:
http://www.moonfruit.com/
http://www.wix.com/
It all depends on what business you are in - Some businesses that need a photo slideshow for example might find the free websites catering more for bloggers than private/commercial businesses.
1&1 are currently advertising their website templates on tv. Personally I would get a web designer in as they can create a more professional looking website for you with your particular requirements.

you may wish to look at wordpress, although designed with bloggers in mind you can use it for standard websites too... although for setting up your self the 1&1 builder is reasonably good.
Must also say, if your going to get a website, please also use the email that comes with the domain eg https://www.mybusiness.com and admin@mybusiness.com rather than using a free, generally unprofessional looking email like mybusiness@hotmail.com0 -
It depend on the type of site you want to create. I have used a few and have use Moonfruit for my own, however if I was doing it again I would use Wordpress. It depends on what you want to be able to use it for.0

It also depends on how much time and effort you are prepared to put in yourself. DIY is fine but like all DIY you only get back what you put in.
Also with most online builder sites you are stuck with their templates which you can only amend so much.
The many thing even before starting is really think about "content." The amount of people who have said to me in the past I'd love a website only for them to come up with about 3 lines of text and 1 picture.
Really think hard about what you want on it and put it down on paper or even better word/notepad so you can copy and paste at a later date.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
please also use the email that comes with the domain admin @mybusiness.com rather than using a free, generally unprofessional looking email like mybusiness @hotmail.com
this is a must! It is on of my pet peeves when I see this on the side of vans etc. Quick and relatively simple to do and if you use a service like Google it's free. I'd recommend using something like google instead of email provided by the company to hosts your website so that if you want to move hosting in the future it won't effect your email.
DIY websites generally look quite bad, depends on what business she is in and how professional the website needs to look.0 -
Thanks all for your replys
How much should i expect to pay for a half decent website then???0 -
At a guess £300+, again it all depends on what you want on it. Also will you provide all the information and royalty free images etc...Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0

If you are looking at someone to do it for you, I'm sure you can get a half decent site that looks good but with no frills fro about £300, however whoever you get to do it for you check out their existing sites. A friend of mine paid £500 for someone with little experience to do their site and he is not happy with it. He's not considering paying out again to get someone more experienced to do it.0
