    seems a reasonable cost.

Probably someone like a local car alarm fitter could install it for you.

The problem is, drunkards never think they're drunk.

I had an Aunt who was the worst form of drunkard. "Such a nice person", people would say. A very respectable, proper lady indeed. Well to-do (thanks to inheritance and her husband of course - not that she'd ever earnt a penny in her entire life) and lives in a nice house, so must be very respectable.

Except, those of us who knew her knew that she wasn't. She would be permanently in a state of mild drunkness. Utterly reckless woman. A spendthrift and judgemental of others, too. Would constantly try and pressurise others into joining her for "just a little drink". After all, "there's nothing wrong with having a bottle of wine with a meal". Except with her, those "just two glasses" of wine she had, had been topped up about 15 times through the course of the afternoon. Oh yes, all just a bit of a jokey situation really. Very lighthearted and fun - until you dared to suggest that perhaps she'd had enough. At which point she became a fire-breathing dragon. In fact, had you held a lighter up to her mouth, she probably literally would have started breathing fire since there was so much alcohol vapour in her breath. You can easily identify someone with a drink problem by suggesting that they stop drinking. When they try to brush it off, be a little persistent. The ferocity of their response will tell you everything you need to know. Somebody with a drink problem doesn't turn into a beserk, raging, hysterical lunatic when somebody suggests that perhaps it's time to put the wine away.

Anyway, an absolutely awful woman and I'm glad I cut off all ties with her. She might even have been a nice person without the booze problem, but we'll never know.

What it taught me is that there are two types of drunks:
    - Those that have a medical problem, and can be "cured".
    - Those that have an attitude problem, and can't.

She was the latter. If I'd suspected her of drink driving, I would have reported her in a heartbeat.
  • These Alcolock systems are not only used by large corporations but they are also used by individuals. They detect pressure, humiditity and temperature so you can not use a balloon to activate them. Suggest if you are interested then you contact different companies that sell these Alcolock systems to see the prices and what they offer. Some offer a fitting service, others, you have to take you chances with your local garage.

They may seem pricey but cheap ones are not reliable or accurate. Also there is no back up system - you'll be on you own if you can't get it working. The web sites won't give you the full story.

Could you live with yourself if you or a relative killed someone whilst under the influence?
  • why is everyone telling op to call police to monitor him.

surely as a concerned family member they can help him not to drive by taking the keys and the car away if need to be done.

give an ultimatum, i either pass on you car reg and personal details to the police and warn them your a liability to the publics safety because you drink and drive, or you hand me the keys, get yourself into rehab via the doctor, and save yourself a license a fine and a conviction.

then the relative gets in drives it not noticeing the clamp is on an damages the car,or worse loses control as a direct result of not being able to steer the car with the camp on the front, and plow into another car/wall/pedestrian who would be liable for the cost of repairs? regardless if he was caught DUI. the OP would be done!.

If he is too drunk to spot a brightly coloured wheelclamp then any damage to his car will be a good future lesson.

Lose control and damage other cars? Not sure how that can happen with a decent clamp.

The clamps i use on my van. Within 2 inches the wheel rocks the clamp onto the bar and it loses traction.

The vehicle is going nowhere. Never mind building speed to lose control.

As long as you clamp the drive wheels of course.

i know about this company, i pitched for a job to promote their site on google but i wasn't selected.

    I researched this though.

AFAIK the ignition locking system is expensive and used for large haulege fleet and other companies to prevent the car starting while the driver is drunk. This is for b2b only, they may entertain a private customer but ususally they won;t because they dont make much money from individuals and would prefer to do large jobs.

They have a consumer product, which is like a police breathalyser, it doesn't have ignition lock, but it gives you are reading of whether you're over limit or not.

Obviously not as effective as ignition lock at preventing drink driving, but really, if you have to mind him like a toddler to reaaaaaly stop him from drink driving. I think you need some sort of intervention from a professional.
