Employer Changes my working hours.

Hi All thanks for reading, This is a great forum.

i will be as brief as i can.

Start employment 3yrs ago, agree contracted working hours are 9.30 till 6.00.
after not very long my manager at the time, he was very helpful as i travelled a fair way to work he he agreed to let me have have half hour for lunch and work 9.30 till 5.30.

Unfortunetly the good manager i have leaves, is replaced with a very bad manager who has no people skills and just a typical office bad manager, company say every employee must work till 9.30 till 6.00 no deals.

I explain my previous manager agree to change my hours, they say have i anything in writing, i don't as i thought i wouldn't need this.

this was about a year ago, i requested to continue working the same hours with the 30 mins lunch as i was looking after my sick father,

As of today my father passed away four months ago and they are moving my hours so i have an hour for lunch and finish at 6.00.

Can i dispute this, is there anything i can do apart from find another job.

Not really - you can request but they don't have to.

Do you have children? not that it makes a huge amount of difference, but if you can show past history with those hours and a WLB it could go someway.

I have verbally told them in not happy about this , but as this is a poor company to work for there not really bothered about my grievances.

Other employee's have there hours reduced because of children but i dont have any.

What is a WLB, my request was because making it a long day as there is 2 hours of travelling involved there and back.

The job is a poorly paid job, with the ending of my working tax credits and increased hour i wouldn't be much worse of being unemployed.

How bad is that last statement.

I don't think you have very strong grounds - the previous arrangement was a concession based on your family situation which has now changed. But I would suggest you make sure you take every minute of your lunchbreak

It would be interesting to knowwhat the job is and whehter the hours are essential to the job.

  • my job is a fairly mundane office job, the work could be done anytime in the day really, and phone cover is not really needed.

there reason for changing my hours was everybody has to work the same hours, but from what i can see i am the only employee hours they have changed. so they probably have it in for me for some reason.

WLB = Work Life Balance - mainly for those with caring responsbilities (eg you whilst caring for your father) or for parents.

They have to be reasonable in their consideration - can say no - but be reasonable.

You are the only one to have their hours changed because you're the only one who was on abnormal hours.

And your new manager is not a bad manager - it is a manager who is enforcing working hours fairly. What you were allowed was not fair on other workers.

Can i dispute this, is there anything i can do apart from find another job.

If the poor spelling and punctuation in your posts is anything to go by, I'd stay put if you're looking at more office work.
  • chill it's an internet forum, i didn't know my grammar had to be perfect.

If you read my post correctly you would read my post said my boss was poor for several reasons, not just for enforcing changes of my working hours. but you obviously know better than me even you don't know my boss and that two employee's in my department have been off for stress and lodged formal complaints against my manager.

but let all your anger out.

Not your employer's problem that you live so far from work. You're going to have to suck it up. Have a 30 minute nap at lunchtime if you need to.

Just ignore that poster, some trolls get off on sniping at people and, remember, arguing with idiots just brings you down to their level.

As to the OP not a lot you can do, but for a low paid job I would not be putting up with an hour each way commute unless I really liked the job.

You need to get employment either closer or better, preferably both.

    Good luck.
