Daewoo FR661NW - compressor gone. What are my options?

Hi all,

The compressor has gone on my fridge - Daewoo FR661NW. I was told that its not worth fixing - any ideas anyone?? Thank you

to fix or not to fix, that is the question?

Sounds like a cheap fridge over year old, probably not worth fixing. would probably take an engineer 2+ hours to remove, replace the compressor and then charge the system.

compressor making a noise or tripping the electrics?

It certainly was not a cheap fridge it is over 10 years old and simmilar still fetch around £400 2nd hand. Thats right chap said £200 labour + the compressor - so from that perspective certainly not worth fixing - just wanted a 2nd opinion of someone who perhaps knows more about this type of fridge?

Well, first he has to buy the compressor, then he has to vacuum pump and collect the old gas out of the system. Now he has to fit the compressor and charge the system with nitrogen, pressure test look for leaks and fix/replace. Then vacuum out the system again, and charge with the refrigerant.

So besides the compressor there is the cost of old gas to get rid off and cost of the new gas to purchase.

If the compressor is not coming on, you could always bypass the thermostat - just to test, and feel the pipes - if you know what you are doing.
