Upgrade on Windows XP.

Hi I have a PC that is several years old and running rather slow. I still have a lot of important stuff on it but am thinking of getting a new tower and transferring my stuff over so it runs quicker. My problem is that my new tower would be on a different operating system and am not sure if my things will transfer as the one I have is on Windows Xp and surely a new one would be Vista or other. What would be my best option guys please?

If it's just Files (photos, movies, documents etc) you're worried about, then you can either transfer these to your new PC, or better still take the hard drive out and install it as a secondary drive in your new PC - Files is Files, it makes no difference which operating system they came from. The new operating system will only be an issue for any programs you have installed on your old drive, but you can just reinstall these on your new PC anyway.

That's very helpful thanks. I had visions of not being able to access all my documents, photos, music etc.
