House sale fell through, the people selling it backed out so now got to start looking again.

Still wondering what to do with my "deposit" money until I find something. Don't really want to tie it up for more than a year (2 at the most really - Im 32 and at home with the parents!).
House buying fell through. Lost £1731.24 :(

    You could think of

    • putting £20K into a Santander 123 current account (3% interest, £2/mth charge, cashback possibility, plus £55 signup bonus via Quidco for the next 7 days)
    • putting £18K in total into Lloyds Vantage accounts (3 accounts @ £6K each). 4% special offer if you move fast - - need to cross some hurdles by the end of the month. See separate thread. If you miss the party, you can still get 3% on 3 x £5K.
    • using some money to cycle £1K a month through a Halifax account, for £5/mth [you can use the same money to satisfy the deposit requirements for Lloyds and Santander)
    • have you maxed your cash ISA? £5,640 this year, similar next. If still an option, go for something that lets you move next April, when rates might be a bit better
    • if you haven't got one yet, drip-feed a First Direct Regular Saver for a year (calculator). May be you can collect the £100 FD signup bonus on the way, too.
    • put the rest into the best interest-paying easy access account, or may be into a 1-year bond
