There is no waiting outside the terminal at all, you will have to use the short term car park which costs £2.80 for 30 minutes. Make sure whoever you are collecting telephones you when they are collecting their bags as its easy to go over the 30 minutes if they are delayed

You could use the drop off zone to do a quick pick up. The passenger would have to go to the departures area and be waiting for you as you pull up.

You can get away with waiting for 5-10 mins in the drop off areas, sometimes longer, it will all depend on how vigilant the wardens are at the time or whether someone or something else is pre-occupying them.

There are plenty of places (Petrol Stations/McDonalds etc)on or just off the A4 Bath road adjacent the airport where you can wait until called/texted. You can be at T1 within 5 mins.

If they are arriving at night you can probably get away with waiting in the drop off zone. I sat in the T5 one for about 30 minutes the other week, along with quite a few other people.

But if its in the day at a busy time, no chance unless its just a few mins, youll have to park.

I suspect that security will be extra tight over the next 2-3 weeks so the police will be especially keen on stopping people hanging around. They have guns and anti-terrorism laws on their side and they don't mess around.

Hanging around in a nearby layby is usually the best idea and get them to text/call when (and not until) they collect their bags - though the laybys are often packed with taxis, chauffeurs and other drivers doing the same.

Why not take the tube to meet them? That way you avoid parking hassles, and save on petrol as well.
