Protected NCD not an option?

Hi all
My mum and dad are trying to get car insurance quotes, and have had to make a claim a couple of weeks ago due to the huge hailstones in Hinckley, Leics.
They found a quote they like through confused (they disclosed their claim details), from quotemehappy, but they were not given the option to protect their NCD (which was already protected with current insurer).
Does anyone know if this is standard practice?

You can't usually protect an NCB if the driver has under 3 years built up. So yep, it's standard practice.0

They had, prior to the hail storm, 9 years built up which they had protected.0

I am looking at an old quote from confused and the option to protect NCB is definately there.
Under the 'Your policy' part of the quote it asks how much NCB do you have, immmediately underneath that question there is a check box for 'currently protected' and immediately under the check box is another question asking if I want to protect the NCB.
If you or your parents can sign in to confused and click 'amend details' on the policy quote and double check the details, make sure 9 years NCB was declared, a mistake might have been made.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Thanks for going to that trouble shelly,
I checked their quote details and everything is in ok, it looks like it's just quotemehappy that won't allow protected NCD as most of the others do give the option. I think they'll end up just using someone else!0 -

They may have had a lucky escape (QMH is another arm of aviva).
They do offer protected NCD, though. Your parents wouldn't qualify for it with them as you have to be claim free for the previous 5 years to be eligible.0 -
Different insurers have different rules on when you can and cannot protect the NCD - in some cases it is actually treating customers fairly!!
With NCDP generally you can have no more than 2 claims in 3 years or no more than 1 claim in one year.
If you have had and declare 2 claims in the last 3 years most insurers wont sell you NCDP as basically you would have no protection as you have already used up both your "lives" and so its just a complaint waiting to happen.
If you have 1 claim in the last year again some insurers may not sell you it because if you had a claim in the first few months of the policy again you potentially wouldn't have any protection and so again is a complaint waiting to happen. Other insurers may take a "policy year" approach and so this isnt an issue for them or obviously some insurers do sell you things you dont need because they are non-advisory and its your choice
Of cause others simply have stricter rules for their own reasonings.0 -
Thanks everyone for your help and replies
