just had letter to tell me that me wife and kids are to be put on new system. what scares me and wife the most, our kids are at 3 different schools, one is severely disabled, we get carers allowance, as the bloke me the supposed breadwinner, who has been invited to this new system, how do we manage.
we, me and our lass, have to get 3 kids to 3 different schools, one with severe disabilities, and be on hand daily for problems, how do i make myself available for these work focussed interviews. it is scaring the you know what out of us.
we have done our best for the kids, and family fund have paid for a holiday weekend for us, will we still be allowed to go or are there sanctions, we are terrified here. living with a disabled kid of his nature, chromosone q1513 file duplication sydrome, and getting our first holiday break, then this. i know its the weekend, and i have to make the local call rate phone call monday. but our questions are many, do they care about family fund, our circumstances, or do we face more problems. my head and our lass is scrambled at the moment.

i assume you mean changing from incapavity benefit to ESA?
if you pass the medical and are placed in the work related activity group, then you will have to atten work focused interviews. i havent heard of anyone having to have more than one a month, and they only last about 30 minutes. if you have another commitment at the same time, then the disabilty advisors are more inclined to be flexible, given your other commitments.
there is no reason why you shouldnt still go on your break. just make them aware of when it is.0 -
thanks nannytone, we hope on monday, and from then on in it should be hopefully easier to understand this new system. me like my disabled son are both autistic, so we panic alot at change, and when i read stories on here about the damage it does, it scares us as a family. fingers and legs crossed. cheers.0

I think you might be able to claim income support, as one of you receives Carer's Allowance. I'm not sure how it works, but a friend of mine was recently moved to IS (married couple) and they have a severely disabled child. The husband had been on IB but was moved to JSA.
Hopefully someone more knowledgable will come along and ive more accurate information.0 -
moving to income support is always an option, but relies on the middle or high rate of DLA being maintained.
how old is your son?0 -
