Carers Allowance stopped
Comments

I rang Carers Allowance when I first started working ( cost me a few £ on their 0845 number ). I explained everything to them - who i was working for, how many hours, the gross/net pay which is under £100 so they said that my Carers Allowance would not be affected.
Now 3 weeks on they have wrote to me saying that they believe that I am now working and not entitled to it and stopped it. Their first form wanted wage slips which I was unable to get for the first couple of weeks - note I am only working 1 day a week. It's not my fault it took the grand total of 3 weeks for my employer to give me wage slips.
Also note that I was never moved on to the child tax credit system. My income support includes the child allowance and the disability child premium. I suppose I should inform Income support of a change of circumstances namely that I don't receive carers allowance now - will this mean that income support will start chopping my income support by stopping the disability premium - does that payment relate to being a carer.
I only took the job to enter the labour market and get an extra £20 a week which is the amount a lone parent can earn on top of income support when working less than 16 hours. It seems now that I am going to be substantially worse off !0 -
I think Carers Allowance Unit have got it wrong from what you've said about your earnings. If you don't want to phone them you could try e-mailing them - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Dl1/Directories/DG_100112150

you should have informed I.S when you started part time work as well,
you need to inform them straight away.
If your carers has ceased, then I think so will your I.S after the eight week run on0 -
I informed Income Support when I first started work - worked on a friday and rang them on the monday - its not my fault that they take a whole month to send out a form asking for details of wages etc.
Maybe I should have listened to my "one parent advisor" a while back when she said not to work under 16 hours as all your benefits get messed up.0
