My partner and I want to go see the Northern Lights sometime this winter. I believe Iceland is the cheapest? Can anyone point me in the right direction to find a good cheap break please.
Thanks

Just did a bit of googling and found this interesting article http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2010/nov/13/aurora-borealis-northern-lights-travel
well over a year old but gives a good idea0 -

A cruise is often the most cost effective way of doing a Northern Lights trip.0

We went with Inghams.co.uk to Lapland. There was NO guarantee of Northern Lights. We did Dog Sledding, Reindeer Trekking and motorized skiddo's and a "Lapland culture evening". Saw Northern lights twice once on "Culture Evening" an once outside hotel in Levi. You NEED a dark evening with no artificial light to view the spectacle when it happens!0

we went on a 3day icelandair trip last year, they are doing it again this year, approx £300pp including hotel and trip out to see Northern lights (which we did see). Just make sure you go at new moon rather than full moon.0

Before booking a trip direct with Icelandair, check out the hotel and flight options on websites such as Expedia and Thomas Cook. A lot of these flight/hotel combinations are all from the same company, WWTE and often the same price. Expedia, Thomas Cook etc. offer a greater variety of hotels and more flexibility in choosing your room grade.
If you are going for a short break, make sure you get a hotel within Reykjavik. You will need to book an excursion to see the Northern Lights as you need to get out of Rekjavik to a dark place. Most of these companies have a website so you can book in advance before you go - costs around £26 each. Check tripadvisor for reviews.
Although you can do 3 day breaks, if you really want to see the Lights try and go for a little longer if you can afford it. We went for seven nights in March and were lucky to see the Lights 3 times, but the first couple of nights were stormy and trips were cancelled.0 -
We went last December to Iceland, and stayed at http://www.bluelagoon.com/Geothermal-spa/Accommodation/ which isn't in the capital and is quite remote, so nice and dark. The hotel has it's own lagoon with free entry for bathing, but you also get free entry to the actual proper lagoon, as many times as you like. There's more info on the website. i'd recommend hiring a car it's only 15 mins from the airport but is quite remote.0
