Mortgage Interest Relief

My husband has left... don't know where he is! Things havn't been great for long while. He has left no money and I am obviously in a terrible mess, both emotionally and financially.

I have two children, one is disabled (in receipt of DLA) I have just claimed Icome Support and was wondering if anyone can advise whether I will need to wait 13 weeks before being entitled to mortgage interest releif, as no one from the benefits department appears to be able to clarify this.

Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can offer.

Yes its a first claim to benefit and you will have to wait thirteen weeks for help. :(
What rate of DlA does your child have, can your put a claim in for carers allowance as well
Have you claimed child tax credits as well.....

Thank you, I feared as much... yes, I'm claiming carers and tax credits, son gets HRC and LRM, but mortgage is £580 per month plus rest of bills at £450, plus food, I will really struggle to make ends meet.

I suppose I was hoping that as husband had been in and out of work for the last 3 years, we have claimed Income based JSA, and with my name being on his claim too, that I might not have to wait for 13 weeks!

I had better ring our mortgage supplier with the not so good news!

Its twelve weeks linking from the last claim so you have missed out..

But depending when he made the claim to JSA you may only have been entilted to two years help

But on I.S after the thirteen weeks you will have no time limit to the help you will receive with your mortgage

I would ring your mortgage company, tell them straight away about your new claim to I.S they will help you.. I am sure

I'm really worried, my son has lots of 1-2-1 support that I use his DLA to pay for... this will all have to stop.

Maybe they will let you pay just intersest on the mortgage, or payment holiday its worth a try...
Make sure you get the MI12 in to them as soon as you can when you receive it

Also ring CTC straight away you will get a higher award..
Council tax you should get full CTB.

I am sorry to hear about your situation maybe when your husband sorts himself out he may pay some maintenance, this will not effect your I.S

Thank you again for your support and concern...

I can only be honest with them and see what they say, we have already been on interest only for 1 year, when husband first lost his long term job 3 years ago, since then he has only been able to get temporary positions.

He has been very low about this and also he has never quite come to terms with our sons disability, and it has obviously all got too much for him. However I have very little sympathy for him, given the dire situation he has now left me in.

Just need to keep ploughing on!
