I'm hoping to move soon and contacted talktalk about transferring my phone/Internet service to my new home. I am in contract until Jan 2013. I was surprised to hear that I willbe charged an early termination fee and then will have to start a new 12 month contract. I thought I could just transfer over.

Moving involves starting a new 12 month contract (that's standard) but charging for early termination indicates TT have sunk to new lows.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

They dont normally raise a cessation charge for a moving customer .Pop over to http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=45&order=desc they will sort it out for you.0

Are you sure? A home move always involves a new 12m contract, but they won't normally charge you a ETC if you are staying with them.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

If you are conducting a home move no cessation fees are charged on the existing account. This is in light of the new 12 month contract that needs to be agreed at the new property.
It is only if you are choosing to move and not take TT at your new address that the cessation fee would be applicable, as this is a case of cancelling an existing contract.
