UKPC Parking Charge

I received a parking notice from UKPC a week ago in a large free car park. I parked beside the fence (no 'no parking signs) as there were no parking spaces. I contested it and am awaiting their reply. I did wonder about their legal rights but thought that it was too risky to ignore! In any case gave me more time to investigate them. Then I found this forum - fantastic info and advice!! Only things that concern me are that if UKPC are con men why would DVLA give them peoples' details? Secondly, why do the police not put a stop to it as it must be fraud? I'd be very grateful for any information.

This fake ticket from UKPC is safe to ignore completely, there is virtually no chance they will take it to court.

Why does the dvla give your details? well they make £2.50 a time for doing so, it makes them millions per year to sell your details onto to people and companies who have broken the law. In regards to the police, I will put it in their words, "it's a civil matter sir/madam" they wash their hands of it in the same way as clamping.

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Sorry! I didn't know that I had to start a new thread. I assumed that I could send anyone a reply! First time I've done this.

It's like trying to have two conversations at once.

Some of the senior members are taking the DVLA to court.

The whole private parking industry exists at the edge of what is legal. We try to educate as many people as possible.

And also, they help us by making mistakes. For example ...

Earlier this year, one PPC lost a tax case brought by HMRC, appealed and lost the appeal. The judges ruled that only the car park owner can take drivers to court. Tax appeals are heard in the Upper Tax Tribunal, which is a court of record, equivalent to the High Court, and therefore its judgement sets a legal precedent.

The British Parking Association (BPA) told parliament that their PPC members took 36,000 to 90,000 drivers to court in 2011. We couldn't recall hearing about that many cases on here, so we requested the Ministry of Justice's statistics. The actual figure was 845.

And further to the MOJ figures, just 49 court cases went before a judge, there were 24 succesful default claims or ones with not an adequate defence. So 1 in 72,000 chance of going to court and losing.
