Take it to the dump as it is - stick a brush (and possibly a dustpan) in the car and sweep up the bits. If you resolve the problem they can't moan! (Albeit they should probably be sweeping it up)

Our tip always has a couple of brushes and a shovel hanging around with a big sign that says "Clear up after yourself". Mind you our staff are usually pretty helpful - if you turn up with with one of those big aggregates bags (the white ones that builders have stuff delivered in) they will help you tip it into the container. They do also periodically sweep up.

That's the whole point really, they are paid to do that, clean up I mean.

We are lucky if you can say that of being roughly equidistant between three LA sites. The difference is unbelievable.

No1 is run by the council, you have to show a recent utility bill to prove you live within the local area, before they let you tip.

The other 2 are farmed out, 1 appears to be run by a family of !!!!!! who offer no help unless they smell scrap value, the other couldn't be different. Polite. They guide you too the correct drop off and always offer help :T:T:T:T:T

Only thing they don't like is kids getting out of the car, to much traffic about, and they realise their liabilities by allowing kids access.

    I agree.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

If we want to dispose of garden waste, as in tree trimmings, unless it's the first sunday in the month where we can buy 15 green sacks from the council for £25:eek: and drop them off to a temporary drop-off(which they also use for Christmas trees) then I have to trim the branches to less than 100mm before I can drop them off at the recycling centre

Got to agree that waste sites seem to attract jobsworths.

I tried to carry a broken freezer into my local one (because my non-commercial van is too tall to go under their height bar) and they tried to stop me, saying that people weren't allowed to carry waste onto their site.

I asked them to show me where that rule is written down and, strangely, they couldn't...

Also agree that a shredder makes excellent weed-suppressing mulch. Almost all of my conifers have gone that way.

As you had no vehicle/number plate you should have just left it at their gates! Lazy useless people. It's always a drama with certain people in certain types of (low paid) jobs. Instead of thinking of the bigger picture (i.e. that waste needs to be dealt with) they constantly try and pawn things off and get by without doing a thing.

This type of thing doesn't tend to compost well in my experience, and as I don't like burning things because of air pollution I put it in the wheelie bin. Just fill any spare space you have on bin day for a few weeks until it's gone. Obviously not so great if you have loads, but I don't tend to have huge amounts as I trim bushes in small amounts over time rather than huge trimmings all at once so that I don't have to store lots. Sometimes I notice the bin is fairly empty as we get close to bin day and I trim extra to fill it.

Whats the situation elsewhere with collections?

IE, here we have 3 bins, black, maroon and green.

Black for general household and food waste, collected every 2 weeks

Maroon for paper/board and glass etc, all thing recyclable, collected same days as black bin.

Green bin for all garden waste, plus they don't mind timber offcuts, sawdust/shavings etc. This is collected every 2 weeks alternate to the other 2.

But they suspend green bin collection from Nov to end of March, just when anyone with a good bit of garden collects the most waste, annoying, more trips to the skips ;)

  • Why not bury them in the soil of your garden if you don't mind.

Dig a hole and let the cuttings rot. They can also serve as fertilizer in return.
