Frame sealant around front door -advice pls

Hi,
Around the frame of our wooden front door is some old sealant which is not completely applied around the whole frame, and is coming away in other areas.
Can we just apply some more on top where the gaps are or must we completely remove the old first? If so, what is the best way to remove the old?
Any advice on the type of sealant to buy - we were going to just get something like Screwfix's No Nonsense Acrylic frame sealant - would like something long lasting and weatherproof.
Many thx in advance.

It's best to take it all off - a stanley blade is good to scrape it off with, then clean down with meths and start again.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
