Newcastle airport

Hi I'm flying from Newcastle to Reus in a few weeks time with my 2 teenage daughters. Bit apprehensive about the airport and correct procedure, as it's my first time flying as sole adult - plus I don't think I'll be at my best at 4 in the morning!
Worrying a bit about flying as it will be my first flight for about 18 years, as are the girls as they have never flown. I envy all those little children who have flown since being tiny, who will get on the plane without a care in the world.....:)

never flown from Newcastle but airports are very much the same, just on different scales - Years ago we used to go to view the planes taking off the week before just to give the kids a comfort feeling and build the excitement - might be worth going down the time of your flight the week before as there is a good chance your flight will be taking off as a scheduled flight.

Can not tell anyone not to worry but just try to treat the airport as part of the holiday experience.:cool:

Prepare well and you'll survive the experience.

Check your passports now. Arrive in good time to queue for check in and baggage drop off. Make sure your bags aren't overweight. Put liquids in your suitcase for the hold or use a see through bag for taking them through security. Security is cumbersome these days. Be prepared to queue, take off belts and shoes, and remember to put mobiles, coins etc in the trays provided. If your airline doesn't assign seats you'll set a sudden rush as soon as the boarding gate is announced. Treat it all as a game. It's an adventure.

It's a small, friendly airport. You have nothing to worry about. Follow savetheeuro's advice but it's one of the easiest airports I've flown from.

    Have a fab holiday.

I have flown from Newcastle and since I don't have a car, I really appreciate the metro connection from the city centre.

As karent said it is a small and friendly airport, with easy to locate LCD displays. I have never flown at such an early time so cannot comment about the catering though!

Check the scheduled departures on your time and date and if you see a large number of flights departing to popular holiday destinations at the same time, make sure you arrive there with plenty of advance (1 1/2 hours at the latest) because hand luggage/personal scanning may take a considerable amount of time.

    Have a safe flight ;)

we've flown many, many times from Newcastle, small airport..you can't go wrong.
Easy to find your way around, friendly staff...have a great holiday.
Once you've checked in the luggage head upstairs, through the security, you're into the shops and cafes etc in the departure lounge area. There's only one entrance to all the gates so no getting lost at last minute. You need to keep your passports and boarding cards handy, they are checked going through security and again as you go on the plane.

Hi Thanks for all the advice . We're travelling by train, then Metro and staying at Britannia hotel the night before, which I believe is next to the airport. So I go from hotel, to check in, leave cases and then upstairs to security and then through to departure lounge......sounds easy enough! How soon before departure do you start boarding? Oh, and do passengers with prebooked seats get on first?

pre booked doesn't get you on any quicker unless you are first class and boarding is dependent on size of the plane - bigger the plane the longer the boarding time, allow about an hour as a guide

Someone has forgotten to say that there is a Greggs on thr ground floor, take your pasties with you! Far left of the checkins.

They do open early, sorry, not sure what time.

I don't think Newcastle can be classed as a small airport, its a lot bigger than Leeds/Bradford which is the alternative for North East fliers

The Britannia is indeed next to the airport - however, it is not one of the better airport hotels.

If your stay is not pre-paid, I would suggest that you try an alternative. The new Doubletree has had some good offers recently and is certainly a better option.

The tripadvisor reviews here only confirm my view.
