Warning - Plusnet

I signed up for the 5 month half price deal with Plusnet - which came to £12.85, with line rental paid for separately. Usual stuff - internet, anytime calls, caller ID - and that at half price meant that the package should cost about £25 a month. Fair price - so I signed up.
BIG MISTAKE!!!
What Plusnet don't say on their site is that this price is for a very low user - so if you have a family, like me, this works out very expensive!!
My family used up our monthly allocation in less than 24 hours!!!
Then any more usage was charged for - in one week the bill soared to another £30!!
I was on holiday when this happened, and it is only a week after starting the internet service that I can call Plusnet to cancel it.
Another thing that is very irritating about Plusnet is that if you contact them via email you get an automated reply confirming that they have received your comment and will be in touch later - which is fine. What drove *me* to distraction is that you then get another email a couple of days later written by a real person, stating that they are not actually answering your question, they are simply re-typing out the T & C, which doesn't help and just sent my fury level higher up the scale.
One of the things that nudged me in Plusnet's direction was their high Customer Service rating - certainly not my experience!

You signed up without knowing whether this was limited and if so what the limit was? What was the allocation that you used up in 24 hours? Sounds like you are heavy users who might have checked carefully before switching.0 -
You have certainly signed up for the wrong option.
It's completely unclear from what you have written what you are paying.
Can you answer the following questions:
1) How much data do you typically use in a month?
2) What is the full price of the broadband provision you have signed up for?
3) What is the name of the Plus package?
I've used them for many years, recommended them to friends, and no one has ever had a problem with them. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I'm not sure where you saw the deal but every page I can see on their site quoting a price for an offer or a normal rated package has a clearly visible "monthly usage" note with a note underneath it saying overnight usage unlimited.
Can you point us to the deal you used?
Their basic usage allocation is 10GB which I can only assume you had multiple people streaming live, gaming or downloading P2P to get to that in 24hrs.0 -
I had a 12month halfprice deal with them. Part way during the year I started going over my limit and found I could switch (but only from the next billing period, not the current month) to the 40gb limit for just another £5 a month and it didn't affect the halfprice offer. I suggest you ask them about this, otherwise i think it is £5 per 1GB over they charge.0

You didn't read the details of what package you were signing up for, most broadband companies put on low usage limits on the cheap packages to make them stand up well in comparison tables.
I believe Plusnet charge £5 per 5GB over your limit (that what it says for me, I'm on the 60GB per month limit, which is nice for streaming movies & using the iPlayer)0 -
Overnight usage is between midnight and 8am, which isnt too bad imo, as I'm a fairly early riser. I hardy ever download anything but watching any kind of streaming or videos such as youtube, iplayer etc does impact quite a bit. What's another word for thesaurus?0

You need to stop your family from using P2P and streaming.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

I've always found Plusnet to be very helpful whenever I've had to contact them. It's not their fault if you chose a package that doesn't suit your family's usage.0
