What SUV? X-Trail or CRV?

Hi
I'm swaying between a 2.5 petrol or a 2.2 diesel Nissan X-Trail (with the older Di engine) or a petrol Honda CRV - as I am limited by a budget - £10000max, and this would probably get me a 2003 model.
Obviously the diesel gets the best mpg, but I only do about 13k per year.
Anyone got an opinion?

thanks
.

both well rated and difficult to split -so it really means you test driving and getting a feel for the cars

Nothing to choose between the two really, i think the Xtrail needs a facelift Bbut you are buying second hand so that won't affect you). Why not keep both on your short list, doubles the chances of a bargain.

Might be worth considering the Toyota RAV 4 as well.

I couldn't buy a CRV because my mother, MIL and sister all have one...would be oh so common!!! (But it does tell a tale)
