Why have all dustpans got that stupid rubber strip on them these days. It seems designed to stop the dirt going into the pan, especially after it has been used for a while, lifts up and makes it impossible to use.
There was nothing wrong with the simple plastic design. Please bring the old ones back.:mad::mad:

They've been making them with rubber strips for years, you need to search far and wide for proper ones.
My dustpans's rubber strip is a few mm higher then the actual dustpan, so everything small just goes under the gap, and not into the pan.
Frustrating ehHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Oh good, glad its not just me
Maybe it was because the old ones did go on for years so the dustpan makers weren't making any money

yes I've found that too - I often just end up hoovering instead as it takes longer to try and get it all in the dustpan!0 -
The idea is that the rubber, being more flexible than the plastic makes a better 'seal' with the floor so that dust does not get pushed under the edge of the pan.
The main problem with dustpan and brush sets is that the brushes have stiff bristles (necessary for use on carpets) which tend to flick some of the dirt over/around the pan.
The pans really need to be bigger and have a top (like the cereal box solution suggested above) so that they catch what's directed at them. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Are the long handled ones any good?
Actually, just looking on ebay and the metal ones look better to me?
One is mega expensive though - I don't think I'd spend £70 on one!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I had a long handled one and found it easy to use. Although I did work at a cinema where we had the long handled ones with a top to it as well, so I was use to it! lol. They worked really well
