Hi there,
I am just in the process of buying a house in the west midlands area. There's a bit of work which needs doing, so just wanted some idea of what to expect in terms of quotes as I don't want to be taken by a ride (first time buyer and all that).
So firstly, the house is only partially central heated from a cylinder boiler. I was thinking of getting a combi boiler put in instead, and adding central heating in the remaining rooms (lounge and two bedrooms). I understand that the piping is likely to be different however and that that might need to be stripped, meaning the price would be considerably more... If I was to stick with the boiler I had (assuming it was in reasonably good condition), how much would be a reasonable quote for simply adding the additional radiators to the existing system?
Secondly, the bathroom needs a bit of work. I would hope to supply all the parts myself, so would be looking at the cost for removing the old suite, installing a new one (including electric shower over the bath to replace the old redundant one), and tiling just around the bath and the basin. Possibly the cost of putting tiles on the floor as well, but if that would increase the cost substantially, I might be tempted to brave that one myself.
I am guessing for those two jobs it might be a good idea to get a plumber to quote them as a joint task?
Thirdly, I was intending on getting the whole house rewired. I dont think it was done a million years ago, but probably long enough to warrent it, and I figured that it might be a good plan to do it now before I start decorating, etc. Any ideas on a rough figure for rewiring a 3 bed semi (with lounge and kitchen diner).
Thanks for anyone who helps... I know there's a lot in here!
