How do you resist spending money on 'stuff'?

Just want to add that now I dont buy loads of clothes, shoes, DVD's and CD's (I have SO many of these things and really don't need anymore) that I don't even feel like I am going without. It's like I have just broken the habit of buying things.
Even my pigsback vouchers will be used for gifts.
Anyone else feel like this or do you still feel like you are going without?***PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT***

i avoid the shops altogether and order my food online. any toiletries i need i get with my food shop plus i am slowly using up all the toiletries i have brought over the years. its amazing how much moisturiser one person can own!
cs and dvd's are downloaded from the internet.
Haha.. This really has struck a cord with me.
I normally get those gift packs of smellies for xmas and I never really use them. I decided at xmas that I wouldnt buy any new tolietry products until I had used what was in the house.
It is now mid march and I still havent had to buy anything! Ok so the aftershave Im using at the moment isnt the best in the world (I think its some Avon musk.. green stuff lol) but I really havent needed it.
The only thing I have brought is a £2.00 packet of dispaosbale razors that I have found to be just as effective as my old Gillette MAch 3 Turbo.
My God why do we fall for all that MArketing BS thats on the TV when it comes to things like shave!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -
Aha! Stuff, oh how we need it soooo badly!
A really good piece of advice is to actually keep a spending diary, some DFW's do this all the time. But even doing it for 2 weeks really shows how wasteful spending on stuff is.
You have to be very strict though and write down everything, even that little packet of chewing gum or can of coke from the vending machine.
I also think it's a bit like giving up any addiction, no smoker will ever quit without the will and desire, no matter how much they know about the health and wealth benefits.
Then the buzz for them is how long they've gone without, with little milestones along the way.
It's the same with wasteful spending, eventually you will feel a buzz from not spending any money and watching the debts drop instead.
Come on, do you really need that new mascara, will one of the three already in your make up bag up do for now?
This is so two-faced of me, dishing out the advice, I really should take some of it myself!!!Proud to be dealing with my debts! :T0 -
I think this is true Winkle1 but I do know that I'm still in early stages - I miss money for going out really. I do have clothes of all sizes so WHEN i loose this weight in the next few months I shouldn't have to buy new ones.
I do miss being able to 'choose' to go to the hairdressers, or choose to buy a magazine for example. Also going out for meals - this is n't just everyday spending though I guess and one day, I'll be able to again!
I haven't broken the habit yet...
Edit- actually reading the two posts above, maybe I have started to! I too am trying to use up all the gift toiletries before buying more - still have stuf from a few years ago - unopened! Also de-cluttering too..CCCS DMP:Feb 07

I tend to buy more for other people than myself until my LB moment in December. I was recently given £100 by my OH who came into some money and he said to go and buy myself something with it. I went round the shops and came home an hour later with a teddy and a magazine cos its been so long since i've had money, I didn't know what to get and i put the rest into my savings account.

I miss being able to choose sometimes... yesterday i was in M&S and i ummed and ahhed over a £2 bag of chocs for my boyf. in the end I did buy them... its only £2 and its not going to break the bank plus I've had 12 NSD's this month.
and they cheered him up no end!

I guess if the blades last a year then that isnt to bad. Before I started this little exercise in DFW Hygiene Costcutting I brought gillette blades in bulk froma supplier I found on Ebay. these blades would last me 6 monts at a time but I lost the details and just refuse to pay £8 for a packet a blades that will last me a monthOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -
i find the mens razors better plus the blades are cheaper!***PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT***
