I generally dont go shopping:rotfl:
However if I do see something then I try and justify it, eg food how long would it take to burn of the calories that normally stops me buying it!
Or I think If I buy this then I have £x less to spend on my food shopping this week so if I dont want to starve then I go without.
If you normaly spend £50 a month on (for examplke)dvds then try saying to yourself right I only have £10 this month which one do I really want and just limit yourself to the one, that way your more likely to umm and arrr over which one you really want and may end up not getting it anyway
Well it works for me:DJune Grocery Challenge 270.80/250July Grocery Challenge 0/3000 -

I don't see how people find the time to go shopping so much - the only time I have to go is the weekend - and I'm generally either off visiting people, tidying the house etc or vegging out.
I can do without the hassle of going to town.
That said, I have problems stopping myself buying things online - especially when they're a bargain, but I'm getting better...just have to be strong with yourself, that's all there is to it.0 -
I too dont go shopping at all these days. why put temptation in the way?
I also have taken to extreme measures recently by leaving home with just £5.00 a day for real emergencies and leaving the cash card at home so I have no access to money. I have a travel pass and take lunch me and even so really I do not need anything else. If I do see something I want I simply just cant get it unless I go home and go back.
I realise that it is hard not to spend but there isnt really any great secret to it. Its all about willpower.
PS: so far this week I have broke into the emergency money once and Im ashamed to say that wasnt a real emergency but rather a case of the munchiesOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -

Lately, I've been working out how many hours work I'd have to do for that item and if it's really worth it... it's been working really well on curbing the spending.
I guess it would probably only work for a part-timer or for big items for full-timers/high earners though. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
I just look at all the junk around my flat that I and other people have wasted money on.
When I shop and see something I like but don't buy, a couple of weeks later I think to myself, 'I really didn't need that' etc. and that makes me feel better for not wasting the money in the first places and makes me stronger for the next time I see something I like.Mum to DD born Oct 2009

This is exactly like us. The only thing we've recently spent money on was our daughter's birthday. Oh wait tell a lie I bought a pair of jeans from a charity shop for £3.95 because all my other trousers are jogging bottoms I wore through pregnancy.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
