You can do HDMI to DVI-D, however you need to find out whether your DV input will accept digital.
HDMI being digital can not be fed into the scart socket as this is analogueThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Suggest you do a search on Amazon for this - turns up a few. Do NOT go for just a cable - they do not have the necessary computer chip in them. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

I've this Sony RDR-HXD970 with front side DV, as shown above picture. Will it accept HDMI signal.0 -
Thats a firewire port, it wont take hdmi, its not a dedicated video port (like hdmi) its a data port but obviously you can send video over it.
There are hdmi to scart converters but you will loose quality from the conversion0 -
Yep, that DV port is a computer port rather than an AV one. There should be more inputs at the back of that Sony, and on the back of your set top box.
You CANNOT record from HDMI. You can ONLY output HDMI to a DISPLAY that is compatible. If not, you'll get lower resolution, or no picture at all. This is part of the copy protection of HDMI.
So look at the back of the Sony, in order of picture quality, for an RGB SCART input, Component (Red, green, blue phone, plus red and white for sound) SVideo input (round, six pins, plus re & white phono for sound), Composite (yellow phono, plus red and white).0 -
Not entirely true, the copy protection on hdmi is broken and there are products that will decrypt the signal and pass it out in another format.0

Being sold legally in the UK? Link?0
-
There are some that exist that would be legal because they do not convert content protected by HDCP - Gefen do one that I've seen sold here. Obviously does convert but probably of no use to the OP.
No mainstream company is going to do anything that breaks the HDCP copy protection but there are certainly smaller/ off shore companies that will and their kit is available for import to the UK (may or may not be legal)
The norm is to get a "+" version of your set top box that will be able to record straight to its own HD0 -
Hmm, looks like Amazon are selling a number of converters that will effectively strip the HDCP such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/Konig-HDMI-to-VGA-Converter/dp/B0048SKRIK or http://www.amazon.co.uk/HDanywhere-Component-Converter-Adapter-Downscaler/dp/B005DRT4JS providing the product descriptions are accurate.0

Good find, but £50 and £60, and the first one has a one star review complaining about lines and not working after 30 days.
At these prices it would be better to sell the set top box and buy an HD HDD recorder IMO!0
