Best place for childs cash?

Hiya,

I need a bit of help, I have £500 each in inheritance for my two step children. Cheques are made out to me, but I’m guessing I can just cash them and write one out in their names.

Now the kids are 6 (twins) and the mother has the original accounts from when the children were babies, now I refuse to give her access to this as all the money that was in there has mysteriously "vanished".

So my partner and I want to set them us an account each with this inheritance and add to it as they grow.

Now I have all that out the way I have NO idea what kind of account would be best

Any advice would be appreciated :o
