Budget loan

Hi all

I applied for a budget loan in March for £600 for furniture and removal costs. I have about £150 to pay back at the moment. My cooker has broken down so have applied for another for £300 and have ticked as furniture/ house maintenance. Is this likely to be declined as I always have a outstanding loan? Don't owe anything else to the social fund.

Thanks

If you got £600 in march, and you have £150 left to pay. then you should be eligible for £450, so the £300 should be approved.

Is it like a rolling arrangement once you've had one?

OP, you can get a cooker for less than £200

    hi thanks

I did buy a second hand one when i move in to my house and thats broke which is why i would rather just buy a new one and get it fitted properly. Anyway I just wasn't sure since I have ticked the same box as last time. I have two children so I kind of need one...healthy balanced diets and all that lol

You can apply for another one but they will look at your recent loan and also consider whether you can make the repayments.

Plus, the applications are considered on an individual basis so if there is not a lot of money left in the 'pot' then they may refuse your second request.

Not trying to be negative but just say it as it is.

I would second the idea of looking for a second hand one or a freebie from somewhere like Freecycle. It is amazing what people give away just because they are having a new kitchen fitted. You could always pay to have it checked out and fitted.

if the OP can find a new cooker and have it delivered/fitted for £200 then I see that as money well spent, it's good to get stuff cheaper if you can but what happens if the money he spends getting a used cooker tested shows it is no good? to me £100 for a used cooker or £200 for a new one is a no brainer.

I think you'll find the mentality in Social Fund nowadays is "pay absolutely everything and check nothing" ... the whole scheme is being scrapped in April, most staff couldn't give a toss what you do with the money after it's been awarded.

you pay it back so it's good they don't give a toss what it's spent on.
