Passport application process time??? HELP!

Hi, I sent my daughters passport off on 19 June 2012 for a renewal as her old one had ran out (she is age 6). I received a letter back saying I had forgotton to include the old passport on 3 July 2012. On that day I sent it recorded delivery back to the passport office and it arrived that day there. I have phoned up to track the passport and have just been told 'it is awaiting examinination'. They would not confirm how much longer this would take. I am really concerned as we travel abroad on 9 August 2012, so we need it prior to then, which leaves less than 3 weeks left!! They said I could phone up 'Peterborough passport office on Monday, but I probably won't get through!'. What should I do????? They did say if I phone up and actually get through I could upgrade the passport application for £60.00 for it to be processed within 3 days??????

I wouldnt worry just yet.
Mine took 3 weeks and it was just a run of a mill renewl.
Maybe wait until Wednesday and call them again?
Although, to be fair, they do say not to book a holiday until you have the passports back.0 -

Ours came back 3.5 wks later.

Renewals normally take 3 weeks. At the moment there is such a backlog that there are no shorter appointments around for weeks apart from in Durham.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0
