Travelling to Dover, where to stop?

Comments

  • Yeah it's doable but probably not much fun, especially with two kids. I'm just away to make two travelodge bookings, one in Dumfries and one near Canterbury. This makes the longest part of the trip 400 miles which wont be too bad spread over a whole day. Gives us plenty time to stop on the Saturday and let the kids out to run wild!

Thanks for all your help peeps!

have you got in-car dvd's for them? if not, go to argos any by the ventura twin screen in car dvd for them NOW, it's about £130 http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5000074.htm

I took 4 children to disneyland and I had my dvd and their mum had theirs, 4 children, 4 screens, 4 happy kids, stuck in the car from 5am to 3pm and not a peep out of them, the youngest was 18 months and as long as there were disney princesses on the screen she was happy

it will be one of the best investments you will make especially if you travel a lot with the children
  • My parents have one so I'll borrow that from them. It was the youngests first birthday on Monday past and someone bought him the cars dvd and they both love that. We'll get a couple of other disney movies for them which will hopefully keep them entertained. Need to ask if I can borrow my folks' sat nav system as well or else I could be making a lot of wrong turns!

600 miles is a long day but perfectly do-able
I regularly do North Yorks to Aberdeen & then back again in a day without feeling too tired & that's around 600 miles
Personally, I'd drive all the way to Dover on the Friday but I wouldn't have thought it would be too bad on Saturday morning down the M11 & around the M25 if you chose to stop further up

Maddnes? who knows - possible? off course it is

As I said I travel from Thirsk to Aberdeen & back in a day for a regular meeting
Leave home @ 5am for a 11am meeting - head back around 1pm & back home for dinner around 7pm - & yes I do try to stay within the limits.
I also fairly frequently travel to our office in Frankfurt in one go [via the tunnel]
They're long days but I never feel too tired at all

I'm also partial to cycling over 100 miles at a time too so maybe maddness does have something to do with it ;)
