Buying a MATTRESS this weekend - bamboozled!

I never realised mattress buying was such an art! Can you help?
I have looked at some of the other threads but think I'm getting too bogged down in the detail.
Due to a temporary house move I'm looking for a mattress which is comfortable for me for now but in a year or so will be great for an occasional guest bed. I'm just under 10 stone and 5'5".
Budget = no more than 250 as only temporary. Standard Double.
I have been everywhere and looked at a million sites. Some sites seem just dodgy and high street chains seem so pricey.
My perfect mattress would be the Dreams Connoisseur but in reality the price is way off.
Can you suggest anything similar, obviously probably lesser quality!
Would appreciate any advice from people in the trade or recent buyers x

Find a local independent bed store and go and try a few.0

I have been to a few, 2 were just terrible quality and the other was just as pricey. Just thought there must be online traders who can offer better value for money...if anyone can recommend any make, models or traders I would be grateful.0

As the risk of being awkward, I'd agree with daveyjp. Try a few more local stores. You can't tell if a mattress is right for you by looking at a picture on the internet. You have to go to a shop and try lying on a few until you find the right one.
You've got a choice - buy a cheap mattress that will go lumpy in a year or so, or fork out quite a lot of money for a decent one.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Thanks for the advice....Iits a shame but I definitely can't get out again just due to work tomorrow, I have already been looking a couple if weeks:rotfl:
I know what I would like, just need some recommendations for products or stores .... I don't entirely trust store provided reviews and i think there is value in MSE forum members advice so if anyone is really happy with what they have recently bought I would love your feedback!
I know I would like a pocket sprung with 5 to 10 cm memoryfoam top so any suggestions on what I should be paying or avoid would also be welcome x0 -
£250 for a double mattress pocket springs with memory foam is doable just. Deep Sleep's Silk 1000 should come in at just under that, it's 1000 springs with 25mm of foam and further 25mm of Memory foam.
But as others have said trying before you buy really is the way forward with mattresses unless you really don't care how hard or soft it feels.
But you could spend easily up to £1000 if you wanted too.
The Silk 1000 really is an entry level model, but IF it's only for a year then it will do the job.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
You could investigate these...

Always better to try them out in the store first thoughNo longer trainee

If you're going for long lasting comfort, latex by Serta is the way to go. Keep in mind that "memory foam" doesn't actually keep it's shape for very long, despite marketing that says otherwise.0 -
Did you register just to say that?
Or do you work for that company, just bear in mind that this is a UK based forum.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0
