Tips for painting fence?

Hi, Soon - whether permitting - I shall be painting preservative on my fence, and was wondering whether anyone might have any tips to share?
I've not done this before, and my fence is quite long: 9 panels of 6ft closeboard.
I shall have to do the job myself, to save funds.
Many thanks!

Use the spray on preservative, its a lot easier and quicker than brushing and gives better coverage. http://www.screwfix.com/p/ronseal-sprayable-one-coat-fencelife-dark-oak-5ltr/28050?cm_mmc=Google-_-Product%20Listing%20Ads-_-Sales%20Tracking-_-sales%20tracking%20url&gclid=COnilZfpqrECFYcntAodMg8AYg
Start at the top of the panel and work your way down. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -

not clear from pic but can you use any fence preservative with this as you seem to poor it into the sprayer as opposed to others you attach the spray to the bottle ? - I have nearly 2oo feet of 6 foot panels and four decks to do later this week so gonna work out pricy with the name brand stuffI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
Is it better to use an oil-based preservative? If so, any recommendations please?0

And wait for your angry neighbour to come charging round because he/she now has a brown patio, garden furniture, car, plant pots, etc.0 -
I have sprayed my shed and I will never do it again, it runs and uses way too much
Get a brush like this and just paint it.
Either get some creosote type cuprinol product or ducksback (just used it on the new stable block (different colours) and very impressed.0 -
I use Ronseal Sprayable with a sprayer.
However the sprayer alone doesn't give good coverage so I also use a brush.
I don't use a brush as in the picture above. I bought a cheap soft broom from Tesco for about £1.50 and cut the pole in half to make it easier to handle. The broom is twice as wide as the brush above so it halves the time taken.
Basically the sprayer saves me the effort of repeatedly bending down to load the brush.
I was very pleased with the result.
I didn't have a problem with overspray into the neighbours.0 -
I was in Asda yesterday and noticed the fence paint was reduced, The good stuff was 6ltr for £8, but they had cheap stuff for £4 for 7.5ltr.
I normally lift the panels when i'm painting them, only about 6" and put cardboard or an old carpet underneath it just stops some of the drips going on the base panels, then when it's dry the next day remove it.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
