Laws for use of car indicators?

For the ones who simply tell me i should cross somewhere else or use a pedestrian crossing............you cant if there isnt crossings or anywhere else safe to go!
For some reason my local council dont think crossings are important at major junctions, there are many a place that need them desperately but dont have them and im sorry but id have to walk totally out of my way to find a "safer" place.
And for the person who said taxi drivers dont need to use indicators where they live, here they are the WORST culprits! They are a law unto themselves and dont care about other road users and pedestrians at all.
I just do not see the problem of using the skills you were taught when learning to drive and doing your test.
Obviously there is a reason why they expect you to know how to do this?0 -
I believe some models have right hand indicators only for use when joining and travelling on motorways;)
Yesterday I was in the left hand lane at a roundabout with a big left / straight across arrow on the road going straight across, 2nd exit . In the right lane next to me with a big right arrow on the road was a Volvo complete with doddery cloth cap occupant indicating right. Which way was he going ? You guessed correct, straight across
A question with regards to the op, if at a junction that is clearly lane marked is indication necessary ?0 -

I have to anticipate what other drivers are going to do to avoid accidents simply because there are so many numptys on the road.
In my opinion, there would be far more accidents otherwise.
Only on Friday some burk was indicating left whilst on a 60mph A road, as I was waiting to turn onto it and, guess what?, the idiot continued on and didn't turn left.0 -

Not true.
Although not a specific offence, one can still be prosecuted for failing to indicate, depending on the circumstances.0 -
I was once in a car with someone waiting to pull out of a car park, and a car coming along the road indicated left; the driver of the car I was in took that to mean that they were turning into the car park, but actually they were pulling in to the edge of the road just after. There was nearly a bump, but they missed each other.
I've been in the exact description you describe. Passenger in my mum's car and she followed the 300 yard advice as she intended to park in the on street parking bays that were immediately after the left turn.I have two BMWs and they both have indicators which work very well!
Work as good as the day they were new?
Hardly any signs of wear and tear at all?0 -

I get really annoyed by the use of indicators at the end of my street. It's a quiet-ish 4 crossroad and people generally slow down or stop because of houses blocking the view to the road, but hardly ever indicate. So if I'm waiting to cross I don't know if they're going straight, right or left. I'm left there waiting for no reason most times!
But I am guilty of misuse of indicators occasionally. When I was learning to drive, I always forgot to take my indicator off, as most of the time the car did it for me. Although I have only accidently left them on twice since I passed my test.0
