which current account?

hi
i am looking for a basic bank account, no overdraft, must have direct debit facility etc, i am looking at natwest and the co operative. i have a very poor credit history hence looking for a basic account. i cant apply to barclays. any thoughts?

    All banks should offer a basic bank account, just ask.

    do they do with without doing a credit check?

    They'll still check your credit report, but even if your bankrupt or have several defaults, they'll most likely accept you for a basic account with no credit facilities (and sometimes no cheque book or debit card - just a ATM card).

    I would recommend trying for a Co-op Cashminder account, which comes with a Visa debit card.

    Alternately, you could apply for a Yorkshire Building Society Cash Transactor account, which is actually a savings account but comes with a passbook or ATM card and allows Direct Debits / Standing Orders.
