Blackpool - What's It Really Like?

Even the name of the town sounds like something grim from Lord of the Rings.

However, there is a 4 night half-board coach trip for £129 when I am on holiday next month. That seems exceptional value, so is it an an offer which can't be refused or merely a reflection of it's worth?

I live on the coast so a bracing sea breeze and acres of sand don't impress me much. There's no kids involved, just 2 middle aged couples.

I'm a southern jesse and only know what I've heard so please tell me some good stuff about the 'pool.

Thats very good value that and Id take it. I like Blackpool and yes its a bit of a stag and Hen weekend paradise but theres still lots to do in the surrounding areas. Maybe a day trip up the coast or even into livepool would suit you whilst your up there.

No need to restrict yourself to staying in B'Pool you can do it in a day and a go on the trams along the front are always a winner just dont walk out in front of one ;)

If the hotel is the Norbreck Castle we would suggest sleeping on the coach !! it is dire !
Blackpool it`self aint so bad , all depends on the weather , some good shows and some bad ones on the piers !
Tram ride to Fleetwood is nice especially if its a market day in fleetwood !

That's not going to be particularly easy if you're coming in on a coach trip though. You could use the local buses to get to Fleetwood and Lytham, and Blackpool itself will take at least a day, especially if you go to the Tower or a show.

Whether to recommend the holiday I think will depend largely on a) what the particual hotel is like and b) the OPs tastes and how tolerant/fussy/open minded they are.

Blackpool is the sort of place that some people love but some absolutely detest and can't wait to get away from - in which case £129 is £129 too much, especially if money is tight.

But if you go in with the view that for you £129 is not a great deal of money and that at the very least you'll come out knowing more than when you went (even if it's only that you now have first hand epxerience that Blackpool is horrible!) then go for it

I went to Blackpool last month and I swear if I live to be a thousand years old I will never ever go again.

It was wet, windy, cold, it always seems to be so.

Full of chavs, people outside pubs, smoking, spitting, effing and blinding and that was only the women.

Parents screaming and shouting at their kids.
Tat shops, tat shops and more tat shops.
Rip off prices for the attractions.

    Dont go, that's my advice.

Have a look at National Holidays Website, top right corners is websavers, often 5 days for £99.
Sign up for their newsletter and you get a weekly email for special offers aswell as a monthly small brochure with a 10% offer off most of the next months holidays.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    Hi

Which hotel would you be staying at ?
Do they organise any trips whilst you're there ?

I've lived in a village just outside of Blackpool all my life, and I'm personally counting the days till I move away.

It really depends on what sort of person you're like, and what floats your boat. The town in Blackpool is decent for shopping, but any of the smaller individual businesses on the outskirts can be a bit tacky. Amusements are all over Blackpool, the best being Coral Island, but that only gets you so far.

To summarise though, there are things to do in and around Blackpool, but you've got to accept that Blackpool is hugely run down and isn't the nicest of places in the world.

P.S I haven't stayed in every hotel in the area, but I've worked in one, and they aren't the nicest of places (quite old fashioned with a lot of work needing done to em'!)

Went only last week and hadn't been for many years prior. It is very poor and I swore I will never return. Everywhere are rowdy stag and hen parties (and I mean everywhere). Prices are ridiculous and to be honest apart from the tower and the pleasure beach there ain't all that much to do. The place is dirty and you can not go anywhere without people shouting at you down the street asking if you want to win a teddy! Dire! And this is coming from someone who used to love the place!

I've seen posters up in train stations and bus stations and they say "come to sunny Blackpool", and i'm sure they wouldn't lie.

Last time I went there was a gypsy lady trying to sell me 'lucky heather' and she wouldn't take no for an answer. when I eventually managed to walk away she shouted 'never walk away from a gypsy lady' and told me i'd have 7 years bad luck. Too scared to go back lol
