Could you not claim on your insurance for accidental damage when you dropped the showerhead?

but no-one, not even me is going to look under a bath mat ;)

The thought just makes me go yuk, especially if it wasn't too clean, not dirty, but not too clean !!;)
  • Definitely. Properties fetch less without a bath (even a damaged one)!

I say stand a rubber ducky over the top and wing it....;)

Seriously... We had an enamel bath at our old house and in a bid to be domesticated (dunno what came over me) I used the "wrong" cleaner on it . Put me off cleaning the bath forever:rotfl: :rotfl:

It actually didn't put anyone off - in fact the people who bought the house offered us the full asking price because they didn't even like the suite and wanted to put their own style in, as soon as they moved in.

    Does that help.... thought not....:p

Hope our experience might help the OP:

My dd slipped and fell in the bath... grabbed onto the inbuilt handle which went straight through the bath! We contacted our house insurance provider and they sent out an estimator from a company who will match style/colour (we had a cream bath) to the rest of the suite. They quoted £650 (4 years ago) to supply and fit a matching replacement bath (whole basic cheapy suite cost less than this). Our insurers said we could either accept that offer or spend up to that amount getting an alternative plumber of our choosing to supply and fit a whole new suite. We went for the latter option and not only got a new suite but new tiling and decorating for only a little more than that (we just had to pay the difference).
IMHO it's definitely worth contacting your insurance company. Good luck

I did not want to claim on my insureance in case it pushed the fees up! Will it! Rubber ducky has been suggested before but when i moved into this house i found lots of hidden Mr Bodgit jobs and would not want to do the same to anyone else!

I do like the idea of buying a proper repair kit - i might look into that this weekend and if no joy I will arrange to get the bath replaced.

How i hate having a conscience. I just hope i have good luck when i start to look for a house!!!

    Thanks for all the advice!:T

I would replace the bath - pursue the insurance option, it should only be a fairly small claim and shouldn't affect the premium too much. If I was a buyer then I would be pretty pi**ed off to find a hole had been covered up. I wouldn't do to somebody else what I would not expect to be done to me.

I was caught out by a baby bath covering a damaged bath in the house I bought and was not happy.

In future I would remove anything in a bath when viewing a potential house for sale and if I found any faults then I would expect to deduct the cost of a new bathroom suite plus fitting from the price. Plus I would then go round the rest of the house with a fine toothcomb to find out what else the seller had done.

For the sake of a couple of hundred pounds its probably cheaper to replace the bath than have a much lower offer.
