Auction Prices for Fiat Punto, or suggestions

Hi i've been driving myself crazy looking for a cheapish Fiat Punto and have found one I like at the auctions and was just wondering if someone had access to past prices so I can gauge weather of not it is worth all the hassle.

Ideally i'm looking for a Fiat Punto Mk2 facelift 1.2 16v with no more than 70k miles but after looking these are out of my £1,300 budget so I am willing to look at the 8v version. So anything from an 02 plate upwards ideally 03 upwards as this is when the facelift was done.

If anyone can come with with any other suggestions then I will gladly hear them as I am sick at looking at cars :rotfl:

I know about the faults with a fiat punto such as HG failure on the 8v but I am able to repair this myself so wouldn't be an issue as its only a cheap job.

Thanks
Sam

Past prices aren't really important, auction prices go up and down month by month these days and with so many privateers bidding you often end up paying over the odds anyway....and then there's the risk of buying without be able to try.
Much better to buy privately from the classifieds or ebay in my opinion

Checked ebay? 2004 cars for easily under your budget.

It maybe best to avoid auctions for vehicles that age, Were they put through because they need major work?

    2006 Punto sold for £1279. 78,000 miles.

At least you can go and test drive it properly which you cannot at the auction.

You looked on Autotrader? I've found a 16v one here with 53,000 miles for £1,285, an 8v one here with 63,000 miles for £845 and a 2004 8v one here with 22,000 miles for £1,300.

There is a plentiful supply of decent Puntos and they are still very popular sellers so don't think that going to an auction and paying a little that you are getting any kind of bargain.
  • Thanks very much for all of your help, could any of you suggest a better car for the money? That is cheap to maintain and easy to work on as it will be used as a daily runner to clients houses for care do if anything goes wrong it can't be of the road for too long.

Thanks, looking at the one with 22k miles but just wondering why it has had a new radiator?

When you add the auction fees (all of them) the price you end up paying will usually make it better to buy from autotrader classifieds etc

At least when you buy classifieds you usually get some tax thrown in and a test drive and opportunity to inspect the vehicle, at aution you get external viewing for 30 mins or more but internally for only 3 to 5 minutes, you get to hear it running for 5 minutes & don't get to drive it. And generally they don't come with road tax....another hassle for buying at auction.....and once bought you can't leave it in the auction house car park without incurring fees/clamping

Generally you will be able to bid at auction for the 'trade price' shown on wise buyers used car guide, then you have fees on top of that.

Have a look at Peugeot 206s, Seat Ibizas, Skoda Fabias, Ford Fiestas and Vauxhall Corsas.

It was probably leaking, it is an 8 year old car after all. At least you know its been done if you do buy it.
