debit card pre auth

Hi

i have an amount on my nationwide debit card being 'held' and this transaction is not going to be collected as i paid with another card (hotel bill). The hold was put in place on Wednesday. when can i expect to see this hold drop off and the funds become available to me again? This is on a nationwide visa debit card.

Cheers

John

Should drop off within five working days of putting it on.

As jonesMUFCforever says its usually 3-5 working days, however from my experience with Nationwide its usually 3 working days.

    Thanks for your replies.

Does this require the hotel in.question to inform nationwide that the funds won't be collected or does it happen automatically?

    Cheers

Either side can theoretically force it to come off, although both sides will deny having that power and just refer you to the other. Unless it's a large amount and you need the money immediately it's best to just wait for it to fall off then to get into a fight with the retailer/bank to release the funds.

One has to ask the question - why did you use a different card to check in and pay?
