Misquoted in the press!

I'm a little concerned (and none of us in the office are legal specialists in this area by any means) about what's been quoted in the press regarding a something business-wise.

I won't post links here, as I don't want to be seen as 'touting' (even though there's nothing to tout unless you know the industry we're in, and only then if you know what company we are and who's on our books for consumers, which is unlikely), however on speculations as to what's going to happen in a competition later this year (3 of 9 have been decided, so I'm speculating, but not openly) the following has come about on another internet forum:

Intresting conversation between (name removed) and (removed) Khalvashi from www.(removed).eu (using the (removed) logo as avatar)

He asked (removed) to come over (competition) 2012 and told he had plans for (name removed)?

(CK)Look at your website, on the news box...That's where (City name) is
I'll save you the time...It's where (Competition name) is later on this year
I've got (Name removed) (Competition name removed) 2009 on my books, so the aim is to have her here as leading lady.

(CK)I don't work for the (Company name removed), I own an independent company. At the moment I can't confirm anything other than what's on the comments, but I can confirm that I shall be there. What do you need?

This poses some questions

1) I know nothing about the three supposed conversations in question, although I do know the original person in question. I have not spoken to her for over a year!

2) For a supposedly limited company, there's no address listed on the website, in order to write to this company. Company is also not showing on CH

3) I have a lawyer who doesn't know what to do on this one, due to the above two points.

Any ideas?

ETA: The basis of the posts are true, however, except I've already submitted the documents alongside two other tender documents to the organization in question.

This went live about 2 weeks ago, and nobody external of the company knew what we were upto (and even then, it was about 15 of the 300 staff we employ that were aware).

I do not think that this has leaked from management!

I found it a bit tricky to work out what's going on, but if you were misquoted in the press, would your first point of contact be the editor for a redaaction/apology?

If you cannot find an address for a supposed Ltd Co, I don't believe it is a ltd co. If you have a domain name for them, that may give more leads, or someone with a bit of forensic/datamining experience may be able to narrow things down for you, or at least find you the organisations to subpoena.

Feel free to PM I will have a dig for you, might help, just not entirely sure what the issue is as the redaction makes it a bit confusing!

It's a fan community for a site that we operate in, specifically with one of the site members having commented on certain things that have supposedly been said (and are all true), but with the source missing somewhere.

I've managed to get my hands on someone that is involved with the running of the site through a Georgian company that do more/less the same things that we do (and actually share the same computer systems and back office departments between 4 companies, based at our offices, although we're certainly the biggest of the group). All I've got back so far is 'the site will be investigated for this post and will be acted on appropriately', which is better than nothing

It's only because someone's put my email address into Google that this has come about.

Unfortunately the details are just too hard to follow. With the missing information it's impossible to understand what's going on...

I'm really confused.

Why have you just started stressing about a comment posted on a bulletin board that was made more than 18 months ago?

Surely the time to get the lawyers involved was back them??

Hmmmm so is it the Invision Power (BBS hosts) who are the supposed ltd company? If so, they're an inc. - probably incorporated in the USA.

Not the press - very different as it is an uncurated/unedited medium.

Are Invision Power hosting this particular forum or not? Although they do have a hosting service, traditionally they were just about licensing the software and having people host their own forums. A lot of the bigger forums, especially, but also many others will not be hosted by IP at all. If they're not hosting it on their servers, they can't be held responsible for any comments or do much about it.

What's happening here? The link I posted to JESC forum message that CKhalvashi was talking about on InvisionFree has been removed from my post above.

It is not as if you can't find the page just by searching on Google, using some of the phrases in the OP. Admittedly, you need to change the date from 2012 to 2011, but it is hardly rocket science to find it.

Does the truth not matter any more?
