Benefit Payment- Advice Needed

Hi Guys,

I am due a payment of Incapacity Benefit on Monday, Normally this clears early and I receive it on a Friday. Today was different though and it wasn't in early so I called the DWP and asked if the payment had been made they said yes it was released for payment on Tuesday 17th July. They told me it was a bit later in going out this time but offered no explanation as to why.

My question is given that the payment was released by the DWP on Tuesday how long does it take to clear and reach my account. My account is a Post Office Card Account.

Any advice I would be grateful for.

Thanks

As the payment was released on Tuesday, I would expect it to be in your bank account today. It's normally 3 days clearance as it's paid by BACS - POCAs are no different in terms of clearance times.

However, as you're not due the money until Monday, they are under no obligation to do anything to chase it for you today, as it's not late.
  • the fact that it often hits your account on friday is irrelevant,as long as its there by monday you dont have a complaint

Thanks guys, my issue isn't really with the fact that I won't get the money until Monday, my question was will it be in my account by Monday. It was really the amount of time it takes to clear a DWP payment that I was interested to know.

I had heard that payments from the DWP can take 5 days, if that is true a payment released on a Tuesday wouldn't clear my account until the following Tuesday or have I got that wrong?

Its three working days usually. They can read the due date on the screens so must have been confident of it getting there in time for Monday.
Have you had any changes to your IB, has this made them adjucate on your claim resulting in them issuing it manually.
Usually it goes out automatically unless someone has been in your claim for a reason.
If the last two digits of your Nino are between 1-20 then you are a Monday payday and if you have been having your money early,

    then well done

I am not aware of a problem with my claim, all that I was told was that it was released on Tuesday 17th July and the person I spoke to said this seemed later than normal and that she had received calls from a few people about the same issue.

I don't understand why after all this time of receiving my payment on a Friday they should suddenly change the day it gets released thus changing the day I receive it. I always assumed that payments were automatic.

I have been told the reason I receive it early is to do with the way that the payment is processed with the Post Office Card Account. Payments clear a day early in some cases. I don't know how common this is though.

DWP can also see the expected cleared date, so that may well have been what they are referring to.

It's also possible you've been paid on slightly the wrong payment schedule, and it's now been picked up and changed to the correct one. Or, you've been paid on a schedule determined by the date you made your claim which has now been shifted to a schedule determined by your NI number, which everyone will be moving to at some point.

Payments can clear early (if I'm due to be paid on a Monday, it'll often show in my account on the Saturday, for example). That's determined by your bank, not the person paying you.

    Thanks for the reply Adereterial.

In an early reply of yours you stated that BACS payments take 3 days to clear. It has been my experience that the day that they release the payment is not the first working day and instead is the following day, in this case Wednesday. Have I got that completely wrong?

My troubles started with the adviser I spoke to at the jobcentre plus. She didn't seem to know why it hadn't been released until Tuesday when normally it is earlier than that. The only thing she did state was that she had received calls from other people with a similar problem. It really would help if the advisers knew how the systems work. It leaves me and most probably countless others confused and bemused with very little info available on the internet about DWP payments to help.

    Thanks for your advice.

ok thanks, looks like a nervous wait over the weekend to see if it goes in on Monday.

Is it true that Incapacity Benefit still takes the longest amount of time to clear compared to other benefits? I seem to remember way back a long time ago being told that IB takes 5 days to clear.
