as this has dropped down the Old Style board, i've moved it to the families board as you will get loads more input over here.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. OS games for young children may be of use to you.
What age are your kids? that will depend on what we suggest, and i f they are girls or boys
I remember the elastics - they were called German jumps i think. ?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Water fights! Water bombs are cheap and it's SO much fun as a kid. Paddling pool, sand pit, use groundsheets to make a slip and slide. Ball games. Rounders. Camping in the garden. When I didn't have a tent I used Mum's old clothes airer and a sheet, or several chairs. Make mini gardens in tubs or "fairy houses" out of twigs, leaves and pebbles. Then the usual cycling, rollerblading etc.0

Aww Fuddle - girls are easy to entertain - my DD at that age was obsessed with musicals on DVD Bugsey and most of all Cats - she used to dress up in a vest and tights, with tights as a tail, with socks on her hands, and socks as cats ears in a head band, she use to force her younger brother to dress to match ( they are 16 and 14 now) - I used to spend hours listening to them 'practice' then have to dress up to watch the performance - thinking about it I was Simon Cowell in leggings, 10 years before he was invented LOL
However, one of their fav games was catching snails and making them race - well we did live in a very rural area......Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

did no one else play elastics?
join lots together, looping them through each other
then make into one giant loop
put them over the legs of chairs (or 2 childrens legs)
there were lots of rhymes
jingle jangle, silver bangle, inside, outside, monkeys tails
you move the elastics up a couple of inches in height each time
please tell me someone knows what i am on about
balls? against the wall (might drive you nuts after a wee while though
when i was at school, if you were poor you had solid rubber ones, i must have been posh, i had 2 tennis balls
again lots of old fashioned rhymes
i taught my girls when little, and they had all the children here playing
i had a great time :rotfl:
I believe we called elastics French skipping when I was a kid! But yes I know what you're on about

I was just about to suggest this. We used to call it 'French Elastic'. No idea why! The 7 year old is a perfect age for it.
Edit: i've remembered one of the rhymes: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales (jumping with feet over the left elastic, then the right, then left, then right), inside (jumping with feet inside elastics), outside (I'm sure you can figure this out!), inside, on.Mortgage when started: £330,995

Oh yes, happy days playing elastic. All the girls in the school playground used to join in. Probably why there was not so much obesity...
(Think we did England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales. Inside, outside, inside, tails with the same actions)Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

If you have a digital camera animation is a great one. My daughter and her friend did it today.
they get characters, like lego ones, or they can model them or it could be cuddly toys or shoes or anything. My daughter used some little japanese dolls and a christmas fairy and the story was she lost her wings and they were inside a rock crystal. I think steven speilburg should be very worried!
Move them slightly per picture taken and they create a story. Then you load them up on your computer and turn it into a slide show and hey presto, you have an animation. Mine take ages and they're quite funny. Plus it can be done outdoors or indoors and they can be as creative as possible.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -

Surely waist-level was the top? Starting with ankles, then knees, thighs... When I played at home with just one friend, we used railings as one side of the loop.. And the balls against a wall thing - we used to do that for hours, sevensies. tensies etc. It was the only sport I was any good at :rotfl:
How about setting them a little treasure hunt, hiding things around the garden?0
