Window sealant on wallpaper

I've almost finish removing the wallpaper from a room The last bit is around the window frame. It appears that the window sealant from when a new double glazed window was installed is on the paper. As I'm starting to strip the paper the sealant is moving with it.
How should I approach this? I thought of cutting the paper with a stanley knife just outside of the sealant. Or removing both paper and sealant then reseal quickly. I'm not sure yet whether to redecorate with wallpaper or just paint.
Hope it's not a daft question! Thanks for any replies.

remove the paper and sealant and then reseal after you've repainted
remember if you are going to paint walls , you will need to remove all the paste that is left on the walls if they are in a reasonable condition , or line if there are bits where bare plaster is showing0 -
Thanks, I'll try that.0
