Hi, I think i know the answer but will ask you all and hopefully I am wrong.
My husband has just had an accident. He was stationery waiting to pull out of a side road when a car on the main road started indicating left.
Husband pulled out and the other car hit the side of him. He has got witnesses saying the other car was indicating to pull into the side road, but i think the rule is that it is my husbands fault for not waiting for the car to turn.
Thanks

Sounds like the other car had maybe forgotten to turn his indicator off from a previous turn and your husband has taken it that he was turning left where he was.

Yes, I think your hubby is to blame but put it in the hands of the insurance company mentioning the indictor obviously. I think we have all been guilty of this but most of us get away with it. Been there, done that.

I seem to recall being taught at some point, if you don't see the indicator going on then treat the other car with caution and assume it has been left on untill you actually see the car turning.

    I hope that makes sense.

It has saved me from an acident a few times.

"All other drivers are morons" is the only rule you need to remember. Never ever assume what they're going to do regardless of signals until they actually start to do it.

In the OPs situation, the husband missed the main clue the person was not turning - they didn't slow down.

All the flashing indicator actually means, is that his bulb's working.

The collision was totally your husband's fault as he emerged without "giving way". He did not take effective observation - meaning he did not judge the speed and proximity of the car.

The other driver might have been indicating because they were going to park up immediately after the junction.

Think you may need to read up on the highway code.

Luck it wasn't a motorcyclist that he hit.

Very relevant to realise that you do NOT go on an indicator to make a decision than can prove fatal to another road user.

I followed a guy 2 days ago, his left indicator on constantly for around 8 miles, two vehicles nearly pulled out in front of him....... I flashed him twice, used my hazards to say "oi your f**king indicator is on!!" and all I got was the middle finger.

People are idiots, you can't trust anyone to use their indicators correctly (or at all) and some, they arrogantly carry on JUST because you've tried to communicate there's a problem.
