  • Is MIL addressing the reasons for her debts and bad credit? This is really important as otherwise it will be too tempting for her to see this as freedom to run up more debt.

    Yup, by getting son in law to pay for it!

    A legal contract...........when she stops paying you, it means you can take take her to court, she'll plead poverty and will be ordered to pay you about ten bob a week.

    If your mother in law has a poor credit history, she's bad with money, loads of people split up when they've just had a baby, you would be naive to think otherwise! Don't do it, if she doesnt pay, it will be you footing the bill.

    She made her bed, maybe paying £150 a month will teach her to manage her finances better. Sorry to sound harsh, but there are too many horror stories on here about lending friends and family money!
