Paypal & Expanded Use Programme?

Hi there

I've just been to pay for some items by Paypal and it wouldn't let me

Can anyone help with the mail they sent please?

It basically says that I have to enrol in Extended Use? And there's a 3 step programme to follow. I'll paste what it says and it might make better sense than I am today.

Step 1:
Authorise PayPal to charge two small amounts to your card. Each charge is less than £1.00 GBP. (You will receive a bonus of the same amount in your PayPal account after you complete enrolment.)

Step 2:
Find the exact amounts of these two charges on your next card statement.

Step 3:
Log in to your PayPal account, click the Get Verified link on your Account Overview, and enter these amounts.

When you enter your Expanded Use Number, your enrolment will be complete. You'll have access to unlimited sending and withdrawals, and you will become a Verified Member of PayPal!

I clicked off when I realised I didn't know what was going on, (plus there's some maintenence work going on  ) grrr, so I received a mail from them saying I'd find two small amounts showing on my Switch card of less than £1.00. (I can't see it on the last statement and I don't use online banking so I'm waiting for a fax from the bank to see if it shows up on there) and goes on to say that these amounts are my unique Expanded Use Number

This takes a few days apparently (that'll stop me spending :D), but is all this faffing about necessary?

More worrying still is another excerpt from their mail which was:

*PayPal strongly discourages users from calling their debit card companies to obtain the Expanded Use Number before receiving their monthly statements
in the post. If PayPal receives a complaint from your card issuer regarding
your account, your PayPal account may be permanently closed.

What's that all about? And does anyone know what these 'two small amounts' might look like?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

I'm tempted to give up .....

    Hey Sofa Sogood!

I'll explain it all....You have to complete the Expanded Use Programme when you have spent over £500 from your Paypal account. The EUP will allow you to spend unlimited amounts. It's easy to complete, having online banking helps but is not vital. You can either wait for your next statement, or I guess get a fax from your bank like you said you are going to do. You could also get a mini-statement from the cash machine? That is what I would do if I didnt have online banking.

The amount will take a few days to show up and will basically be 2 random amounts from 1p-99p. You need to know exactly what these are and enter them by logging into Paypal and clicking on the "complete expanded use programme" link. It's dead easy. Once you submit that, you are pretty much done! You can then spend to your hearts content! Which can be a bad thing for some people lol

Thanks JPS, now everyone knows how much I've spent :D;)

I can't get to a cash machine or bank - that's why I shop online - I guess I should start banking online too ;), but thanks for the suggestion.

And unlimited spending amounts? :j I daren't lol

I'll wait to see if it shows up on today's fax, but till then I'll see if I can find some sellers that prefer cheques :D

I'll probably be back with another query when I get the numbers lol.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it. It's been one of those days

    :)

No problem! And you should get a "bonus" from Paypal of the amounts they have taken out, so you do not lose any money, arent Paypal generous? lol

    Hi again :D

I've got the two amounts now, so even when I go through this process does it mean I still can't use paypal for a few days do you know?

    Thanks

You can use it as soon as you've completed the EUP (put in the numbers)

    Thanks you two :)

I must have done it - it says:

You have successfully entered your Expanded Use Number. To thank you for completing your Expanded Use enrolment, we will give you a bonus equal to the amount of the two charges when you make your next payment using this card. (Note that this bonus may take up to 24 hours to be reflected in your PayPal account balance.)

    :j

    Phew .....lol
