Can I sell my house to my partner??

Have you checked if you can you get contribution based JSA?
When i was unemployed I was told that if my partner was working and i was out of work - as long as my NI contributions where up to date for 2004-2005 tax year i could claim contribution based JSA for 6 months. (unfortunetly mine werent but i found a job the same week he did luckily!)
Well, that is interesting! I am going to the job centre tomorrow - so maybe they can tell me. My NI should be up to date as far as January when I left. Do you know how much it would be? Might pay the food bill? Thanks for the info - I was just told no to JSA so now I know what question to ask.0 -
the amount is in the link i added to my previous post when i edited it
Its:
£45.50 a week for those under 25
£57.45 a week for those over 250 -

Blimey - that would certainly help. (errr - yes I am over 25!) I am definately going to ask them about that tomorrow. Although thinking about it, they did say they were sending a form which hasn't arrived (which I was supposed to take with me tomorrow). Anyway - thanks again - once again DFW comes up trumps!!!
I'd like to give you a thumbs up but don't know how!0 -
Hi Spendthrift, I hope I am not making a nuisance of myself posting replies. I am not stalking you honestly lol. Im just a DFW addict who is surfing the net why I am menat to be working

I just wanted to say that even though Egg have declined the offer they cannot refuse your payment of £1. you should still make this to them as otherwise your credit file will be in worse state of affairs than if you paid nothing at all. You have made it clear to them that you have no income at present so there isnt much you can do.
As already discussed in the Token payment thread you will get a defualt notice and the debt may be passed toa debt collector but they are more reasonable and are likely to accept your £1 a month if you send them your SOA if and when requested.
As with regards to this post about the house I dont really have any further ideas about im afraid apart from seeking advice from the CAB or call back the CCCS and ask them.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

Ha ha! I don't think you're stalking me - you have more experience and I am really going to follow your advice. I will revise the letter, make an offer and enclose a cheque for a token payment. You would hope wouldn't you that they could see your case favourably? Especially as the banks/Credit Card Companies are coming under fire all over the place. So thanks again for your advice it really is greatly appreciated!
I am a bit hopeful about selling my house to my partner - it would make us a bit better off (again I take your point re 'moving debt') and I will properly research our options. Thanks again Crown.0 -
if you are not going bankrupt or into an IVA then there is nothing legally to stop you selling the house to your OH.
there are the obvious issues
can he get a big enough mortgage and can he afford the repayments?
is there sufficient equity for you to pay all your debts off or only some
have the issues that lead to the debts in the first place been addressed so you wont be in the same situation in a year or so time
Hi mate, just read your comments, sorry mate that aint right about the morgage,if she goes bankrupt and as sold her house to her spouse if there is equity in the property the or will contact the spouse for his share,it as to have been sold 3years before she goes bankrupt to make it safe,as for iva's in my oppinion forget them much to costly there are better ways.but thats for another day,
cheers pal

Hi spendthrift,
I used to work for a bank and if you are not working there is absolutely nothing they can do to MAKE you pay. However have you written to all of your creditors explaing the situation? When I was a bank manager I always found it alot better if a customer came and told me their predicament instead of hiding under a blanket....it wont go away!!
How are you getting on with claiming on your charges?
Good to see you are seeking help, im here is i can be of assistance with letters to creditors and working out your affodability for them...

Hi greggie!
I have sent the letters off so fingers crossed (as I said, have no idea yet what the value of the claim could be).
I have tried to keep my creditors abreast of the situation - but it seems that the 'machine' takes over and there is no human input. I went to my bank today and they were quite blank. Have made an appointment on Saturday to see them. Problem is my mortgage is with them too and is about to go up by about £300 which will be nigh on impossible to meet. Have spoken to CC companies but am now putting it into writing because the phone calls are hard to monitor at my end.
I def agree that to keep them in the picture is paramount and I have never buried my head in the sand, in the past and now.
Thanks for your advice and offer of help - good to get all these comments from people who are 'in the know'. I will keep you posted on the charges and am glad you're forging ahead with yours! I need a little win! (Like getting £64 refunded to my mobile with one phone call today - not a lot but it made me feel good).
Cheers

Would there be some kind of a half-way house (so to speak) - if you are in a long-term relationship, it would make sense for you both to have a share in your joint home - could you do anything along the lines of he buys 50% of the house, and you remortgage to a joint mortgage with the idea that you will get a job asap so that you can pay your share?0
