DLA renewal

Hi

Just asking for advice

I sent in my dd renewal and it was received on 26th April

I got a letter confirming that it takes 8-11 weeks

It is now past 12 weeks so I rang the dept and was put through to the decision makers dept who told me that they are now going by when the date of the claim ends not when it was received

I am just wondering if anyone else has put a claim in for a child in this period and been told the same or had a decision back regarding there claim

They have 6 weeks before it ends and she told me that I should although she can't guarantee it get a response to let me know what is happening

Theres a huge backlog apparently but they do always say this when you phone so am more curious tbh then anything.

I know there have been cutbacks etc etc

Thanks in advance

  • with a renewal they send the pack out early so that you can fill it in and get it back way before the end date of existing claim.

it does take longer to hear back than if it was a normal first claim.

they dont backdate to the date you sent it in (recieved date) they will go by the date the existing claim ends if the decision hasnt been made, so they will back date to 7/7/12 if they made the decision today if your claim ends on the 7/7/12for e.g not back to april when you submitted renewal.

we put ours in back in february, the made a decision a week before the expirery date of the existing claim.

if there is nothing that can be done to speed things up like school communication (sending docs back that have been requested) then your at their mercy for the moment.

Renewals may, but not always, take longer. Mine was processed in just over a couple of weeks.

It is only done from the end date if there is no change in award. If the award changes to a higher component it is backdated to the date of the form, and payments backdated.

No change means it will be done from end date. ( Not sure about the process for dating when an award is not reinstated, or when award is lowered though.)
