Declined by NLA Tenant Check - Can this affect credit record?

Hi,

My new LL put me through an NLA tenant check. They could see I have no CCJs and a good credit score. Being self employed, they wanted copies of my accounts / tax return. Being paranoid about ID theft, I did not give them to the NLA, opting to prove my status to the LL direct. LL is happy to sign contract, but did say NLA stated 'I had been rejected'.

Is being 'rejected' by the NLA (purely because I don't like all and sundry having my records and have little faith in private companies looking after my personal information) going to affect my future ability to gain credit?

I've looked at my Equifax report today and it says a search was performed, but that's it. Outside of the 'NLA' who will be seeing that I was rejected? NLA say on their site that they share records with credit ref agencies.

Thanks in advance.

It will have no effect on your credit record.

Thanks. I couldn't see how it would, as it's just the NLA's individual judgement. I'm planning to get a mortgage in a year or two and don't want any black marks on my history.

If NLA claim they share info with CRAs, how can it affect me? Is it purely on the NLA database?

Rejections and declines are not recorded anywhere, other than in the records of the firms concerned. Your credit file will never say anyone has declined you anything - mortgage, tenancy, credit card, nothing.

A credit search is a credit search and that's the end if it. It will fall off your file in twelve months.
