Question about 2nd driver on insurance

I have seen on the advice page that putting a 2nd driver on car insurance can lower the cost. I don't have any ncb so anything to reduce the cost would be welcome. I could put my Dad on the policy, he has years of ncb, but I am concerned whether it could have a negative effect on his insurance.
Will he have to declare that he is a 2nd driver on another policy when he gets his insurance for his car and if so is it likely to increase his quote?
Most importantly will it effect him if I have to make a claim on my insurance if he is on the policy as a 2nd driver?
thanks

No, no and no.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

No/Maybe/No
Most insurers want to know if you have access to any other cars, so he may need to increase his access by 1 if he is a named driver on your policy.0 -
It can lower it but sometimes it can increase it. You need to make sure that if they make a claim that you notify your insurance. As they would have asked if the named driver had any accidents or claims etc.
You cannot use his no claims, So you must still put no you dont have any no claims to transfer.
Declare he is a named driver. Did he tell his insurer he has access to other cars when he took his policy?
If you make a claim it wont affect him as long as your not named on his policy. But anything he does will probably need declaring to your insurers.
Few pitfalls there i think to want to avoid naming other drivers.
What if he makes a claim and doesnt tell you. You goto make a claim and your insurance ask why you did not declare your named driver had made claims.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Also he must tell you about points/convictions - which you in turn must tell your insurer, even if he never drives the car.0

Just got my insurance renewal and it's gone up without making a claim. I have my wife on the policy as a joint driver but she hardly drives the car will need to see if it works out cheaper without her on the policy.I hate migraines.0

Thanks for the replies. I should have tried first. The above questions occurred to me after reading the tips on here but when I tried adding my Father the quote went up not down. I guess it may work for a very young driver but apparently for me my Father must be rated as a higher risk.0
